Glass Blowing Rotorua - For anyone interested in the age-old art of glass blowing, the de Flute Studio & Gallery will be a 'must see' when you visit. Beautiful pieces of glass art, attractively displayed, shimmer and sparkle wherever one looks. In sharp contrast, the engine room of the studio behind the serving counter is all about the work.
De Flute Glass Gallery & Studio
Ron van der Vlugt, the owner of this business, is a lovely guy who is happy to shed light on this fascinating form of art. Born here in Rotorua, Ron actually began his studies for blowing glass in California, USA. Over a period of seven years he also studied in New Zealand and Japan.
Since then he has worked for other studios until opening De Flute Glass in 1999. If you are lucky you will find him blowing molten glass, turning it before your very eyes into a beautiful bowl, vase, sculpture or other work of art. Being based in Rotorua, the volcanic theme comes through strongly in Ron's work. Amazing really.
Ron makes mostly one off pieces and also has an online shop where he ships both New Zealand wide and internationally.
If you want an authentic, one of a kind gift, this would be the place to get it.
Ron has featured in numerous exhibitions both here and abroad and along the way has picked up a number of well-deserved awards.
153 Fairy Springs Road (opposite Skyline Gondalas & Rainbow Springs)
De Flute Glass is located on the main road into Rotorua from Auckland. It would be on the left coming in and on your right if you're leaving. I think it would be easy to miss as most people are looking at the signs for the big operations of Rainbow Springs and the Skyline Skyrides on the opposite side of the road.
On foot? Local buses stop not too far along the road.
